The question you just asked is the kind of thing people earn their PhD's trying to answer with mathmatical formulas. You could also have asked how fast does it break it down when bulking as it also does so then. I suspect you want a simple answer but asked a massively complex question that I don't have a PhD to give you the 200 page answer for... so rephrase the question into what you are REALLY looking for and I can try to answer it.
Say I work myself up to a 200 kg deadlift. Can I stay at that level if stop working out for 3-6 months but keep a good diet with plenty of protein and don't drop below maintenance calories? Will the body be like "Okay, we are at level 200 now" and stay there or do you have to keep at it like you do with endurance training? Not the best analogy considering all the bs the last couple of years but are strength gains like money in the bank?
If you stop training for 6 months at a 200kg deadlift you will be lucky to hit a 100kg deadlift your first week back training. If you eat at maintenace if you built up a fair amount of muscle lifting and maintain the same body weight without doing any lift you will gain some fat and lose some muscle.
Is starvation mode bullshit or is it a physical state? I feel like term gets used too loosely like over training. Thoughts?
I don't know what that is but the name alone suggests moronic marketing BS. A caloric deficit for a long enough time gets you ripped not a specific workout.
I did this program for 4 months, it improved my cardiovascular performance (particularly running) like crazy. I think the name Insanity is appropriate, but I suppose Sean T's BeachBody workout wasn't that sellable. I love your delays when you talk, for like 3 seconds, then you continue you sentence. It's kind of awkward and makes me laugh!Along those lines, does this explain a rapid weight gain? I'm on a pretty small caloric surplus of 200-300 calories per day after a cut, and I put on 8-10 lbs in 3 weeks. Obviously it's not muscle, I'm just not sure if it's from the extra food hanging out in my stomach or if I need to dial back on my surplus.
You will always gain a lot of water after a cut when you go back into a surplus. However are you sure you are only consuming a 200-300 calorie surplus? Do you know especially what your TDEE was based upon the weight loss in the final 2 weeks of the cut and did you use that to determine your maintenance?
Using my maintenance level I had before, I was around 2800, factoring in activity level. I lift 4 days a week, I am 6'3 and right now hover between 188 - 193. When I ended my cut a month ago I was 184 lbs. My goal was.5 lbs per week so I'm definitely getting more than that but I just don't know if it's water weight, the extra food or if I am gaining fat too rapidly.
That was my prob I cut WAY too hard for the start and lost a lot of muscle mass. I've been cutting for months since like last july hahah I thought I was at 15 percent. LOL I had man boobs and a bigg gut now I am more like 15 or a tad below.. btw, i assure you that i have no time at all to sue people, i am busy 24/7 making gainsand recovering :) Champions aint got no time for stupid lawsuits.
Fair enough... with a lower back strain I would watch my lower back and see a chiropractor asap. Once it is sorted do a lot of core work to strengthen all the support muscles and look at any previous technique or form issues that might have contributed to it so you can avoid it in the future. Plenty of guys have come back from back injuries and become champions.
so with squats and deadlifts out of the picture, do you have any other excercises i can do in the mean time?
I've had a lower back injury before getting into training that was sorted by a chiropractor but no I've never had any back issues as an adult. I've always kept support muscles strong, worked on flexibility and technique though.Rest pause type training can get through some plateaus and I think used sparingly it can be effective. However a bench press max stall I would go more conventional powerlifting routes and look at your training program as well as the weak point in the lift and build that weak poin up with accessory work and specialized work to push past it.Hey Jason, I use Isopure protein and it has taurine in it. A couple guys at my gym told me to stop using it, cuz any protein with taurine, glycine, or lysine in it is used to protein spike. To where its used as filler and it shows up as protein in the testing so when they say I'm getting 27 grams of protein a scoop(on the label) I'm really getting only 20. Any truth to this? I dont wanna be wasting money on crap protein.It isn't that big of a deal we are talking about overall amino acid profile and it is so high on whey anyways that if they are tosing in some non-essential amino acids it still contributes to overall intake. I think isopure is insanely overpriced for what you get though.
Yea that was my issue i was cutting on 1500 calories when my maintenance was 3000 way to harsh...I am not cutting on 2650 and feel way better..

You don't go about 3 reps for true ME work. No I think given the CNS/PNS pounding you NEED to rotate variations frequently or you will plateau.
Well considering I have not stepped on a bodybuilding stage in 11 years and wasn't planning on doing bodybuilding again and I am a powerlifter I will take that as a compliment. :-).
I think more out of confusion for the viewers than anything... all types of funny shaped bars being used, chains and bans everywhere, pressing to boards on my chest, speed work etc. Pure bodybuilders and people who train at box gyms are going to be confused.
Some may be confused, but it would be a huge addition to the fitness community and spice up the typical body-part splits we are all used to seeing. It would open the eyes of many people to a whole new side of strength training that they are not used to seeing.
I train at a specialized gym. My current sessions are about 2-2.5 hours each 4x a week. I have an ME and DE squat/deadlift day and an ME and DE bench day. Both with specific accessories for their respective lifts.Off topic, but what's your favorite joint supplement? I'm having tennis elbow issue that hasn't completely gone away.
Proper deloads, proper training programing and fixing the lifts that might aggrevate a joint or cause tendonitis is the best cure. I've not seen valid evidence for any joint support working other than a couple drugs that are usually not legal to possess in the US without a prescription.

Jason will I lose gains if I switch from your novice program to something more strength based? I'm thinking of running Elliott Hulse's "Grow Stronger Method".
If it isn't a linear progression program and you can still make linear progress you will make slower gains but no you would not lose gains.
Why there is only so little of lateral deltoid work in your novice program.it is anterior deltoid dominant program and i dont want to get my shoulders get over developed what comes to anterior deltoid because lot of people will have their shoulders pinched forward because of muscle inbalances and it looks stupid.You will still make gains.. that program is a very good program no matter what training you were doing before.
I've become much less interested in bodybuilding and much more interested in functional strength and a lot of things Elliott has been talking about lately.
I remember Jake Wilson in an interview with Layne Norton explaining that the reason why one gains muscle faster after a loss (due to a cut or time off the gym) can be attributed to the fact that given muscle cells develop two nuclei when exposed to usually high volume, which in turn makes it two times easier for that given cell to grow tissue back. That's by far the best physiological explanation I have found behind the concept of "muscle memory". Check it out, it's on Muscle College radio !
They will only speed up fat burning a small amount over what you are already losing on a cut. That combo will howver make you look leaner than you actually are and will harden you up massively if you are under about 10% body fat.
What's your thought on quick & aggressive bulk/cut periods, whereas you aggressivly bulk for a month or little longer & cut hard for 1 month & repeat? Thanks in advance!:).
First, bulks should be 2-3x longer than cuts. Second, you'll probably end up spinning your wheels. You won't make much progress bulking for 1 month.
That's just wrong in so many ways. In my opinion bulking should last at least 3 times more than cutting does.

I promote high volume actually... I say that only a minority of people thrive on high volume genetically on a cut and that most need to reduce volume a bit... if you are in the smaller group then do 25 sets per body part and burn more calories.
Are you ever going to do videos that show what you do in the gym each week or answer questions on none fitness questions? I know you have done videos on what you do in the gym but they are not on every workout or frequent.
I've answered this over and over...and over. As soon as all these US checks clear or just any of the larger ones for more than a couple thousand I will be getting a new camera and more gym attire and equipment and start filming about one workout a week.
