Why does anyone care about the fibers they recruit? All that should matter is what excercise contributes to ones goal..
i always wondered why I never see any white fibers in the human anatomy and physiology text books and even during surgery operations. I honestly believe the whole fast twitch fiber training is BS. Humans have always evolved to be endurance driven, unlike chickens and rabbits which are predominantly fast twitch animals. Thanks this makes a lot more sense than what other people were saying and I totally agree. Especially about the order, someone was saying the other way around because its called fast so it comes first which is so wrong lmao.
Iv always been taught that lifting heavy weight e.g. 3x6-8 reps with explosive movement will build size, true?
Yeah, I got some elbow pain that kept me from gym for 10 days. Your wise words reached me too late. Elbow is back to normal now though and lesson learned the hard way :D. I've had my trip to snapcity 1 time, so I always throw in a warm-up sets.. even on days I don't think it's neccesary ;). So if a man or woman were to say do a set above the 85% of max weight and stimulate those fast twitch muscle fibers, would a subsequent set right after of say 65% still be using those fast twitch fibers on every rep? Or does the body simply use only what is necessary each and every time and have to climb up through the "ranks" of fibers from slow to fast? If not would it make sense to warm up, followed by a real heavy set and then onto say a 65%, 10 rep set for 5 sets?If slow twitch fibers are used first before using fast twitch fibers when you say.. Throw a punch then why would you desire fast twitches if theyre used for fast movements first anyways and 1. Have more endurance and 2. Are smaller thus taking up less room. Sorry im just confused on how this works..
that's for sure. i just always wanted to say that. bu i can lift my body weight like a mofo. i only weigh 100lbs though so that's cool.
Sorry if this come across as offensive because I seriously respect your knowledge and you clearly lift the guy above is a dumbass. You said you're not natural so shouldn't you have a crazy steroid physique? or am I just missing something? Again no offence; i'm sure I missed something as I am new to your channel.
99% of guys on gear are not going to be anywhere near what you would consider a crazy steroid physique. It takes crazy amounts of drugs to have a "crazy steroid physique".Hence the reason you have people defending guys who are 220 lbs lean and claim natty "Nu uh! If he was on steroids he'd look like Ronnie Coleman or Jay Cutler! He's nowhere near their size so he must be natural! Or if he isn't then he could have gotten that big without steroids anyways it would just take longer!". lol yeah i've been seriously mislead then! Like I said though no offence; you clearly lift and know what you're doing I just always expected that big, dry, grainy look from steroids! thanks for the response man, sub'd.This was a great video. To tell u the truth failure has made me feel faster lighter and endurance. I did everything in the weight room. This video has cleared my confusion.I am agnostic (I don't think we are capable of knowing with the currently available information and world history if there is a higher power and what its will or plan for people actually is... but I do not deny the possibility)... thus I remain neutral on the issue. The atheists might be right, or the Baptists, or the Mormons or even the Muslims... or none of them.
What do you answer when someone asks where the universe comes from? From nothing? Or "I dont know".
Can you coverhow you approach a month long fast such as Ramadan? A large number of people will be doing this this summer, would be so great if we could get your opinion on how to minimize muscle and strength losses. Its a topic that hasnt really been covered well on youtube yet. Thanks!
Ramadan is not a month long fast, it is a daily fast that one breaks every single night... they can eat unlimited amounts of food every day as long as it is not when they are fasting that day. It is actually possible to gain muscle during this.
You say its possible and I too believe it is but what do you think the best approach is in terms or meal timing and when to train? If you had to fast from 5:30 am to 7pm without water, what would you do? Thanks for the helpful videos man :).
The food part is no problem you can bulk in the window they give you just fine... the water is the most difficult part. If I were in the situation I would drink water until I was almost sick of it at about 5:15-5:20 then the moment the clock hits 7 pm drink a liter of water. This is the only way you will stay properly hydrated. It takes some discipline to make it work and still make gains, but it can be done.I'm looking forward to it, I'm just going to look at it like intermittent fasting. I have a 24/7 gym so it's all the same. I always feel better once the month is over.Yeah, I know- I'll be fasting this year. What would you do (in terms of diet, physical activity) if you were fasting and wanted to gain muscle mass. Or - at the very least- stop any losses? Im planning on breaking my fast with whey, eating high quality proteins (chicken breast, fish), lots of complex carbs, waking up at night for a protein shake, and for my last meal before the fast Ill be having some sort of casein. Thanks!so to make it clear... to recruit all fibers what I need to do is beast myself with the weights? Already new that :P.
Yes but far less effectively than weight lifting does. Most top level sprinters do heavy barbell squats and other leg work as it makes them better at sprinting.
What accessory template for bodybuilding you recommend with the Wendler 531program for optimal frequency?
So based on this, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Kris Gethin's DTP training system.
No point in addressing a question that we cannot really answer due to all the variables. You can put it on in the thread though I for the next Q&A when I start the thread. We could of course argue that caloric expenditure when really sick could be quite catabolic also.
I've got a question, when you're sick, do you burn more calories as your body has to fight illnes. Is this true or total bullshit?
Too many variables to answer that question. The fever might burn more calories through thermic effect but your reduced activity may lower your NEAT etc.
Hi Jason, just to shout out at nick over at livelearnlift who defended your position on muscle fibers.I guess you and another person had conflicting info and he defended your position.
Now I finally got it. Thank you so much, Jason! :) btw where can I ask you questions for your Monday Q&A?Just go whenever you feel ready and dont really worry about it that much.Generally speaking you shouldnt take too short rest as it would reduce your workload but not too long either as it would cool you down. For heavy compounds the rest time should be longer than for isolations or less demanding exercises.
Hey Jason, please watch LowBudgetLeanMuscle's latest video about muscle fibers because I think that's why the subject is coming up so frequently again...I made a response video on my page to point out to people that aren't subscribed to you both so that they have the most accurate information. No disrespect man cuz I love your channel so please check out the videos because I think everyone needs to know. Thank you for always looking out for us all!
It can come back real fast yes. Possibly faster than noob gains. I put 2" on my arms in the first month back training even though I lost 5 lbs dieting.
90% of my subscribers voted for me to keep it when I made a video asking for them to vote on it a week ago. You should have put in your objection then. LoL.
Jason, I'm currently on Wendler just started 2nd cycle. I'm 5'8 160lbs. I wanna get bigger and I'm starting to think all Wendler is going to do is increase my 1RM with some hypertrophy. Should I just go back to my old way of training. Always lifting heavy, 8 sets of 2-3reps on main lifts (going till I can't anymore) and then assistance work? I would do BB program but thats not for me, I like lifting heavy and it doesn't make sense to be sore from lifting some light ass weight.
5:20: when you were explaining this i instantaneously thought of a scenario what you are saying makes sense, when im bench pressing 2000 lbs the first 5-6 are easy and then it starts to lag, i think when it hits that lag is when the endurance fibers are exhausted and the recruiting begins! sweet.
dude i knew it!, i knew that muscles recruited all of them, i didnt exactly know but i had a hunch, it all makes sense now.
So, i kinda broke your novice 5x5 and have been doing this for deadlifts, i did 375 for 1, felt easy, but then dropped it down to 345 and did it for 3, then did 325 for an easy 5, then 315 for an easy 6, two short reps of failure...on a weekly basis, i make sure i improve on that, but i don't go for my 1 rep max more than twice per month am i doing it right?Jason, here's some data on muscle fibre types of different athletes :) COMPETITVE BODYBUILDERS 31.32% type 1 55.76% type 2a 12.92% type 2b ENDURANCE ROWERS 25.38% type 1 42.48% type 2a 31.2% type 2b Here is the link to where this information can be found: go on suppversity dot blogspot and search for 'muscle fibres' in the top left :).
It's shocking how many people don't know about this. In the book You Are Your Own Gym, the guy basically says something rediculous along the lines of, "why would you chose to exercise one type of fibre and not the other, you need to exercise both and you will with my program" (massive paraphrase). I still love the book and the program though.
Hey man, off topic question, who made the intro to your videos? I like it. I need one for my channel when I get it going again.
If you go back a few weeks or a couple months most of my videos have a link to his page in the description. I am not sure if he is doing any work right now though.
Hey Jason, I'm a sprinter, and I was wondering about pre-exhausting, do you think if I do hamstring curls (3x12-15) before sumo deadlifts or rdls (3-5x2-5) will help recruit more fast twitch fibers or will it just hinder performance in those lifts?
As an athlete pre-exhaustion will carryover poorly to your performance. If you want to isolate a muscle then isolate it but don't do so prior to do your real strength work. Do your deadlifts first.
Great video Jason, a lot of people dissociate the two. I don't think many know that motor units don't recruit them independently.
I know you're against it, but wouldn't occlusion training help recruit those fast twitch fibers? If you're fatiguing the slow twitch first with the occlusion than naturally the fast twitch will then be recruited quicker. Thoughts? If you were in the 'hypertrophy rep range' and using as much speed and therefore force as possible, I guess you would also recruit all of the muscle fibres. This would be true for all rep ranges up to the point where if you lower the weight any further you cannot move the lightweight fast enough to produce the force needed to recruit all the muscle fibres. The tempo used in the hypertrophy rep range causes all fibres not to be used from rep 1.

Do a search on google for "Lean Body Maximizer" to see their reaction.Hello everyone. Superb clip. My uncle was once a fatty. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Search on Google)...

400 metres before: 1:03 after 2 weeks: 54seconds if you live in the UK you can get the band from Argos.
Typical white boy stuff (I'm white)...looking for a shortcut to performance: "done 3 days a week for just two weeks...18 minutes" Meanwhile, the people who make it to the college and pro level work out for hours a day using hills, stairs, etc. for their sprint resistence. BTW: The exercise shown in the video barely works the fast twitch muscles. It's an isometric movement, which, somewhat, works the slow twitch muscles of the quad and hip flexor and the joint between them...but no blood flow.
check out my channel to see how i improve my speed and vertical over the next couple of weeks. im 16 and run a 4.7-4.8 as of right now. I also have over a 30 inch vertical. comment on my video if you have any tips as im trying to run a 4.5 and be able to dunk a basketball. Anything will be appreciated :D.
i THOUGHT i had found the secret to runner faster. i thought it was hip flexor but no. i found out that it did increase my acceleration a LOT but my top speed is still the same. when i try to run faster than my top speed my legs starts to shake and i lose my form. i guess im still slow.

You say use 70% of your strength. What if I exceed that? What if I use 2 bands when I'm not really ready?
Instead of the band, can we use a seated leg extension machine, and just hold a comfortable weight for 10-15 seconds?

In fighting, all your kicks and strikes will be using fast twitch (strength fibers) but all your conditioning and your ability to last a long time in a fight will be using slow twitch (endurance fibers).
hey personaltrainertai. this is great! i appreciate it. im trying to understand this stuff so i can create the body that i want. i was wondering, can running a lot make you lose your muscle definition? how can i balance that? i do some high interval training to work on losing fat and for conditioning. but, at the same time, i have been trying to see if i can gain and maintain cuts in my body. could you help me understand so i can remodel my workout routine that i am working on currently? thanks!
Lol. Ill remember this when I'm running from a T-rex... As if dinosaurs and humans lived in the same time period.
thank tai, i think i've found the principle to build my muscles from this video, love your vietnamese videos about success and these videos on body building too!!
Very good video, great information although I do have to correct you on one bit, there were no humans when dinosaurs were about.
What fibers do wrestlers need more becuase they need to be Fast and Strong but they also need to have a lot of endurance since matches can go up to 6+ minutes of intense movement?
Wrestlers need to train both because they need the fast twitch (strength/speed fibers) during explosive moves and they need the slow twitch (endurance fibers) to last the whole match.Both. They need fast twitch for quick movement and strikes and of course slow twitch for muscle endurance, but a lot of the endurance is cardio too.i cant remember very well but i read somewhere of a test to do on yourself, you lift your maximal weight for 1 rep, then you lower the weight to 80% of that weight, and if you do more than 5 reps, that means you have more slow twitch fibers, else, you have morre fast twitch (this ones gets tierd easily). I normally gauge if my clients have more slow or fast twitch fibers by looking at their strength levels. For example, I once worked with 2 prisoners of same age, height and weight (162 lbs). One guy squats, benches, deadlifts, 585lbs, 385lbs, 620lbs and the other guy does 250lbs, 185lbs, & 315lbs. Obviously the stronger guy has more fast twitch fibers.you talked about intensity but didnt actually mention the speed of the reps. im a girl, and i want to tone my body not getting it bigger. i dont exercise with the maximum weight that i can do, but with many reps (mostly 15, with any exercise). so should i be doing the 15 reps that im doing fast or slowly? thanks in advance:). Hi, I would like to train my fast twitch fibres without actually gaining much mass. I want to be stronger without getting bigger. I've heard that it also lies within the nerves. How would I go about doing this? :).
Guys, burn fat does not need to be difficult (I used to think it did). I'll give you some advice right now. Search a diet plan called Kinovelax Diet Plan (search on google). Seriously, that diet plan has changed my life. I probably shouldn't even be talking about it cause I don't want a bunch of other folks out there running the same "game" but whatever, I am in a good mood today so I'll share the wealth haha.
Did you just talk about human evolution and running away from a dinosaur in the same sentence... ? This was a very helpful and informative video but humans and dinosaurs were separated by over 60million years...I've seen documentaries where they say humans & dinosaurs lived at the same time n not at the same time. I don't know which ones to believe. However, I personally lean more to the side that they did live at the same time because there are carvings of dinosaurs and man together in many ancient ruins. I'm don't know much about this subject matter.I didn't see the necessity of SlipaUK's comment, personally. I could clearly understand what you were trying to say, why somebody always feels the need to be pointlessly pedantic I don't know. Anyways - thanks for this video. I'm currently on my last year of my Sports Science course so I pretty much know this stuff - it was pretty much revision hearing this video. I got onto it after checking out your injured/broken hand rehab, which I found really helpful & I will start doing now. Cheers!
Guys, losing weight does not have to be difficult (I used to feel it did). I'll give you some advice right now. Look for a diet plan called Kinovelax Diet Plan (google it). I probably should not even be mentioning it because I don't want a bunch of other guys out there running the same "game" but whatever, I am just in a good mood today so I will share the wealth haha.
Perhaps you'll stop searching youtube video about muscle building so you can promote YOUR OWN PAGE in the comments section...
cause it scalled on the intensity of the work out not the percentage of muscle you have in your body... he explained it at the start...
Basically most of this guy’s information is worthless, useless and garbage, words that he likes to use a lot however he should really be using them about himself. He’s a knucklehead!
There is so much conflicting information out there because people like this guy just spill out all this bullshit that has no basis in science or reality. If somebody is doing this and not backing it up with proper studies, then another way to see if maybe there is some truth in what is being said is to look at the person’s physique. This Asian Wonder’s physique is not that wonderful for a full-time personal trainer.
And his how to breathe on exercises is just hilarious. If you want to pass out in the middle of a set then follow his advice on breathing. Also when he discusses good and bad exercises, this information is mostly incorrect too. Of course you can’t lift as much on leg extensions as you can on squats or leg press. When you do leg extensions you are only using your quads to lift. With squats and leg press, multiple muscles are being used to lift the weight and thus you can lift more weight. This guy is confusing isolation exercises with compound exercises. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. The majority of this guy’s information is incorrect. There is no fast twitch rep range or slow twitch rep range. What matters most is going to failure and the same amount of muscle can be built in high or low rep range. Which is why you can have somebody who has a massively ripped chest and only does 100’s of push-ups and why you can have somebody who has a massively ripped chest and only does chest press of 10 rep max. This all has already been proven – see Clarence Bass webpage for studies. I researched and experimented on several thousand U.S. Federal prisoners for over a decade. I would love to hear about the research you did so I can learn from it also. Upload some of your own videos and send me the link. As for Clarence Bass... I have NEVER used steroids so comparing my workouts and training philosophy to someone who uses steroids is not even accurate. If u into steroids use, go check out any of the Mr. Olympia competitors. my channel is the wrong place for that.
I wish u was my teacher in school...u curse in your teaching I listen to that well and not fall asleep lol.
Are you using Ben Johnson as an example before or after his steroid use? If you're referring to Ben before steroids, you've gotta valid point, if you're referring to Ben after using steroids, you're just farting in the wind.
Ben is naturally gifted to have more fast twitch fibers then normal people. Whether he uses steroids or not will not change that fact.
hi, i have really big muscular legs, but when i got older, i realize i am seeings some cellulite, i have no idea how that ended up there, it just sneek up on me, is it possible to change it to muscle ?

Oh hai:) Did you heard about the Explosive Muscle Method (search on google)? My sis says it gets people ripped fast:). Oh hai:) Did you heard about the Explosive Muscle Method (search on google)? My sis says it gets people ripped fast:).
Question to Tai, or to anyone who might know more about this: im around 250lbs, i want to get to about 200- or so. Even though that might be impossible or whatever, its a dream/goal i have set for myself. I also would rather have fast twitch muscles then slow twitch. But i want to burn fat as well. You said doing slow twitch muscles would burn fat better. Would it be possible to burn fat and train towards fast twitch muscles as well? would i lose weight at a faster/slower pace if so?
I have trained hundreds of people to lose 50lbs so that is not impossible at all. No personal trainer I have ever met would think that your goal is impossible. Just give urself time. That will take u at least a year or more. U can do it faster but it won't be healthy n u will likely snap back to ur original weight. Yes,working fast n slow twitch will help u lose weight faster.
Hello, if you say that fat burning happens in the red fibers how about the afterburn effect of high intensity training? Or is that high intensity training (whole body bodyweight supersets etc.) what you mean for fat burning and what you describe as high intensity would be rather high tension with big weights?Hey, have you heard of "Musclegion" (do a Google search for it)? There you can watch a nice free video demonstrating the best way to start building noticeable lean muscle very fast. It made it possible for Ryan overcome his muscle development plateau and consequently pack on cut lean muscle without fat very quickly. It might help you also.Tai, question: I want to work on my Fast Twitch muscles through running / jogging, does this mean I need to go for the sort of training that athletic sprinters do?So why did you train prisoners? I would think that isn't so smart, because now they can run faster from the cops, they are stronger to mug/rob people, and they are just, in all, physically stronger to accomplish they're criminal activity? lol.
Its still surprises me, how lots of people are not aware about Kinovelax Diet Plan (google it), although lots of people get great results with it. Thanks to my cousin who told me about Kinovelax Diet Plan, I have lost tons of weight with it without starving myself.

hi, im a football player in tucson AZ, and i created a workout for myself, but i dont know if it will be affective. so i was wondering if i could email it to u so that u can evaluate it and tell me what should i change.
Check this out before you send me anything bro: getbiggetstrong com/start-here-first/how-to-cr-eate-a-personal-workout-routin-e/.
great way of explaining it. Ive been getting frustrated with not knowing this lately, you explain it in simple terms. thanks. Im my off days from the gym. my recovery nutrition is custom structured to repair, recover & rebuild broken down muscle tissues quickly. Using special calorie and macrunutrient shifting techniques. My soreness is often eliminated. I got this from: MusclesMaximizer.info. nice vid! at the end of the video you say, that if someone wants to train for mass gains, he should train his fast twich fibres... two sentence later you say, that about 50percent of each muscle are slow twich fibres... so my question is, what will be a bigger muscle, one that has big white fibres and small red fibres or one that has big red and white fibres.. why dont train bouth for mass gain????
This still surprise me, how lot of people don't know about Kinovelax Diet Plan (search on google), even though lots of people get good result with it. Thanks to my cousin who told me about Kinovelax Diet Plan, I've lost tons of weight with it without starving myself.

Not on purpose. I screwed up many prisoners' backs, necks, shoulders, rotator cuffs, etc. before I finally figured out how to get bigger and stronger. i was fortunate I was not held liable since they volunteered for the research.
if i'm taking in enough protein, is it safe to work out 5 times a week if the 5th day is working slow twitch musles and the first 4 are fast twitch?
