i always wondered why I never see any white fibers in the human anatomy and physiology text books and even during surgery operations. I honestly believe the whole fast twitch fiber training is BS. Humans have always evolved to be endurance driven, unlike chickens and rabbits which are predominantly fast twitch animals.Thanks this makes a lot more sense than what other people were saying and I totally agree. Yeah, I got some elbow pain that kept me from gym for 10 days. Your wise words reached me too late. Elbow is back to normal now though and lesson learned the hard way :D. I've had my trip to snapcity 1 time, so I always throw in a warm-up sets.. even on days I don't think it's neccesary ;). So if a man or woman were to say do a set above the 85% of max weight and stimulate those fast twitch muscle fibers, would a subsequent set right after of say 65% still be using those fast twitch fibers on every rep? Or does the body simply use only what is necessary each and every time and have to climb up through the "ranks" of fibers from slow to fast? If not would it make sense to warm up, followed by a real heavy set and then onto say a 65%, 10 rep set for 5 sets?If slow twitch fibers are used first before using fast twitch fibers when you say.. Throw a punch then why would you desire fast twitches if theyre used for fast movements first anyways and 1. Have more endurance and 2. Are smaller thus taking up less room. Ramadan is not a month long fast, it is a daily fast that one breaks every single night... they can eat unlimited amounts of food every day as long as it is not when they are fasting that day. It is actually possible to gain muscle during this.

The food part is no problem you can bulk in the window they give you just fine... the water is the most difficult part. If I were in the situation I would drink water until I was almost sick of it at about 5:15-5:20 then the moment the clock hits 7 pm drink a liter of water. This is the only way you will stay properly hydrated. It takes some discipline to make it work and still make gains, but it can be done.I'm looking forward to it, I'm just going to look at it like intermittent fasting. I have a 24/7 gym so it's all the same. I always feel better once the month is over.Yeah, I know- I'll be fasting this year. What would you do (in terms of diet, physical activity) if you were fasting and wanted to gain muscle mass. Or - at the very least- stop any losses? Im planning on breaking my fast with whey, eating high quality proteins (chicken breast, fish), lots of complex carbs, waking up at night for a protein shake, and for my last meal before the fast Ill be having some sort of casein. Yes but far less effectively than weight lifting does. Most top level sprinters do heavy barbell squats and other leg work as it makes them better at sprinting.

Too many variables to answer that question. The fever might burn more calories through thermic effect but your reduced activity may lower your NEAT etc.

Jason, I'm currently on Wendler just started 2nd cycle. I'm 5'8 160lbs. I wanna get bigger and I'm starting to think all Wendler is going to do is increase my 1RM with some hypertrophy. Should I just go back to my old way of training. Always lifting heavy, 8 sets of 2-3reps on main lifts (going till I can't anymore) and then assistance work? I would do BB program but thats not for me, I like lifting heavy and it doesn't make sense to be sore from lifting some light ass weight.
5:20: when you were explaining this i instantaneously thought of a scenario what you are saying makes sense, when im bench pressing 2000 lbs the first 5-6 are easy and then it starts to lag, i think when it hits that lag is when the endurance fibers are exhausted and the recruiting begins! sweet.

It's shocking how many people don't know about this. In the book You Are Your Own Gym, the guy basically says something rediculous along the lines of, "why would you chose to exercise one type of fibre and not the other, you need to exercise both and you will with my program" (massive paraphrase). I still love the book and the program though.

Hey Jason, I'm a sprinter, and I was wondering about pre-exhausting, do you think if I do hamstring curls (3x12-15) before sumo deadlifts or rdls (3-5x2-5) will help recruit more fast twitch fibers or will it just hinder performance in those lifts?
As an athlete pre-exhaustion will carryover poorly to your performance. If you want to isolate a muscle then isolate it but don't do so prior to do your real strength work. Do your deadlifts first.

I know you're against it, but wouldn't occlusion training help recruit those fast twitch fibers? If you're fatiguing the slow twitch first with the occlusion than naturally the fast twitch will then be recruited quicker. Thoughts?If you were in the 'hypertrophy rep range' and using as much speed and therefore force as possible, I guess you would also recruit all of the muscle fibres. This would be true for all rep ranges up to the point where if you lower the weight any further you cannot move the lightweight fast enough to produce the force needed to recruit all the muscle fibres. The tempo used in the hypertrophy rep range causes all fibres not to be used from rep 1.

Typical white boy stuff (I'm white)...looking for a shortcut to performance: "done 3 days a week for just two weeks...18 minutes" Meanwhile, the people who make it to the college and pro level work out for hours a day using hills, stairs, etc. for their sprint resistence. BTW: The exercise shown in the video barely works the fast twitch muscles. It's an isometric movement, which, somewhat, works the slow twitch muscles of the quad and hip flexor and the joint between them...but no blood flow.

i THOUGHT i had found the secret to runner faster. i thought it was hip flexor but no. i found out that it did increase my acceleration a LOT but my top speed is still the same. when i try to run faster than my top speed my legs starts to shake and i lose my form. i guess im still slow.

What fibers do wrestlers need more becuase they need to be Fast and Strong but they also need to have a lot of endurance since matches can go up to 6+ minutes of intense movement?
Wrestlers need to train both because they need the fast twitch (strength/speed fibers) during explosive moves and they need the slow twitch (endurance fibers) to last the whole match.Both. They need fast twitch for quick movement and strikes and of course slow twitch for muscle endurance, but a lot of the endurance is cardio too.i cant remember very well but i read somewhere of a test to do on yourself, you lift your maximal weight for 1 rep, then you lower the weight to 80% of that weight, and if you do more than 5 reps, that means you have more slow twitch fibers, else, you have morre fast twitch (this ones gets tierd easily). I normally gauge if my clients have more slow or fast twitch fibers by looking at their strength levels. For example, I once worked with 2 prisoners of same age, height and weight (162 lbs). One guy squats, benches, deadlifts, 585lbs, 385lbs, 620lbs and the other guy does 250lbs, 185lbs, & 315lbs. Obviously the stronger guy has more fast twitch fibers.you talked about intensity but didnt actually mention the speed of the reps. im a girl, and i want to tone my body not getting it bigger. i dont exercise with the maximum weight that i can do, but with many reps (mostly 15, with any exercise). so should i be doing the 15 reps that im doing fast or slowly? thanks in advance:). This was a very helpful and informative video but humans and dinosaurs were separated by over 60million years...I've seen documentaries where they say humans & dinosaurs lived at the same time n not at the same time. There is so much conflicting information out there because people like this guy just spill out all this bullshit that has no basis in science or reality. If somebody is doing this and not backing it up with proper studies, then another way to see if maybe there is some truth in what is being said is to look at the person’s physique. With squats and leg press, multiple muscles are being used to lift the weight and thus you can lift more weight. This guy is confusing isolation exercises with compound exercises. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.The majority of this guy’s information is incorrect. There is no fast twitch rep range or slow twitch rep range. What matters most is going to failure and the same amount of muscle can be built in high or low rep range. Which is why you can have somebody who has a massively ripped chest and only does 100’s of push-ups and why you can have somebody who has a massively ripped chest and only does chest press of 10 rep max. This all has already been proven – see Clarence Bass webpage for studies. I researched and experimented on several thousand U.S. Federal prisoners for over a decade. I have trained hundreds of people to lose 50lbs so that is not impossible at all. No personal trainer I have ever met would think that your goal is impossible. Just give urself time. That will take u at least a year or more. U can do it faster but it won't be healthy n u will likely snap back to ur original weight. Yes,working fast n slow twitch will help u lose weight faster.
